More than just writing my name!

“I didn’t realize how much I would gain from going to school” Dipu shares about OM Bangladesh’s Village Primary Schools.

“I was so proud of myself when after a few months in school I could write my name in Bangla. I always wanted to learn to read and write but never thought I would get the chance. However, going to OM’s starter-primary school has brought me much more happiness than just writing my own name.

Before OM opened a primary school near my village I wasn’t able to attend school. My family is very poor; my father is a day labourer so we don’t have a stable income. All the related expenses of going to school put education out of our grasp. However, that all changed when OM set up a school close to my home and provided all that was needed for me to attend. My first day in school was a happy one, but I did not realize how much I would gain from going to school.

Life has not been easy. I live with my father, sister and grandmother. My parents are divorced and I really miss my mother. Often I wish life were different. However, my teacher in school is just like a mother to me. It is amazing how she loves, cares for and helps us all. I love my school and my school teacher,” a young girl named Dipu* shared. Dipu’s teacher is a follower of Jesus, who radiates Christ’s compassion and love especially for the poor and needy.

For so many children, like Dipu, education was never even on their horizon. OM’s schools change the game for children, families and community, making education and a pathway out of poverty possible.
