At the heart of OM is Jesus’ call to love our neighbour. Whether it’s the people we live next door to or our “neighbours” in far off countries who have never heard of Jesus, we take this call seriously and believe it to be a great privilege to share the love of Christ with whomever we come in contact. OM exists to inspire, empower and equip God’s people to fulfil this mission and in doing so to bring God’s Kingdom to earth.
MAP (Ministry to Australian Peoples) is one way that we at OMA go about ‘loving our neighbours’ in Australia. Through MAP we specifically focus on building meaningful relationships with Muslims. There are Muslims from over 60 countries currently living in Australia and while the number of Muslims doubles every 10 years, very few have Christian friends. Many Muslims face social isolation and hardships as they try to settle in Australia and so the team at MAP work hard to show the love of Jesus to what is an unreached people group in our own country.
There are many opportunities to be involved in the work of MAP from a 1 or two week exposure to the Islamic religion and culture and the work of MAP to a 2 or more year commitment for those who feel called to ministry amongst Muslims.
