This year has proven just how valuable freedom is. We’ve all had our freedom restricted, some more than others.
As we celebrate the Christmas season and look forward to enjoying increasing freedom, we are reminded of the ultimate freedom that is made possible by the birth of Jesus.
Can you imagine
life without freedom?
Can you imagine what it’s like for millions of families who don’t enjoy our freedom?
Freedom Lost
Luna is a teenage girl growing up in Cambodia.
With an abusive father in jail and a sick mother unable to work to provide for her two children, Luna had to beg in the local market. When that didn’t work, her mother told her, “if you want to make money the easy way, go sleep with a man.”
Luna’s story is all too common in Cambodia. Poverty is recycled by a lack of education, training and support for families.
In 2020, many more have lost work because of the pandemic and can’t buy food for their families.
Freedom Found
In these communities, OM’s Project Freedom is pushing back against the cycle of poverty by providing life-changing social work and education.
This transformational development centre in Phnom Penh is helping women, children and families from abusive and exploitative backgrounds through:
- human trafficking intervention and prevention training
- physical and medical support
- tuition classes in English, Khmer, Maths, Music and Computing
And it was to Project Freedom that Luna’s family turned.
Evicted from their home because they couldn’t pay the rent, Luna’s mother knocked on the doors of Project Freedom, known among the community as the place that provides for those in need.
Not only did they open their doors, but also their homes. Mom, one of OM’s local workers, took the family into her own home, and after Luna’s mother sadly died, she began the adoption process.
“God loves them,” said Mom, “and so do I.”
