Sports Evangelist

OM in Belgium is looking for a sports evangelist. Sports and fitness are by far the most important cultural activities, with ⅓ saying they play sports regularly, and 70% saying they regularly do fitness. The gym industry was booming up to Covid-19, and people are looking for ways to get back looking good and feeling fit. This role is for someone who can be a credible sports or fitness coach, or build relationships by joining a local team or club, possibly playing in ranking competitions.

You love sport, and, what’s more, you’re good at it. Good enough to have your name on a trophy somewhere, or maybe a coaching qualification, or maybe you’ve been part of a team or academy that was really going somewhere. But you also love Jesus, and you want to invest in the Kingdom, even if it’s only for a while, before returning to full-time sport, or taking your career in a different direction.

Sports and fitness are by far the most important cultural activities, with ⅓ saying they play sports regularly, and 70% saying they regularly do fitness. We don’t have a manual for this role: all across Africa churches have been started through football teams, and in Central Asia OM’s Total Fit programme has opened many doors. But, thus far in sport-obsessed Belgium, nobody has found the key to sports evangelism.

So there’s just two objectives:
1) Find out how sports-based evangelism can work in Belgium
2) Do it.
And one stretch goal:
3) Once you’ve developed the ministry, train others to do the same.

Does this sound like you? We are looking for a one-year minimum commitment.

Everyone who is new to OM and has not been part of a similar programme in another organisation will spend their first year as part of our Year Programme, which will include working in their chosen ministry. This includes Bible training, language learning, and introduction to missions life and many opportunities to develop new skills and talents.

Visa: EU-citizen
Health: Good physical health
Willingness to raise personal support

Live opportunities are unsalaried. Most people joining OM have to raise financial support to cover their living expenses, usually through gifts from home churches and other supporters.
