As an accountant on the mission field with OM, you will use your financial management skills toward the purpose of seeing vibrant communities of Jesus followers established among the least reached. This important role is vital to ministry on the field. As an accountant in OM, you would provide accountability for the cash transactions conducted on the field and perform duties to assist with accounting functions pertaining to bank accounts, budgets, journal entries, financial reporting and administrative changes, guided by precedent and guidelines of established polices. Participation in local ministry and team life may also be aspects of your role.

The role involves overseeing local finance operations (and possibly staff) and providing financial advice and support to the leadership team. It may be necessary to be involved in preparing end of year accounts ready for external audit.

The main tasks are:

General Accounting
– Reconciling the bank accounts
– Oversee the budgeting process
– Enter budgets into the accounting system

Month and year end procedures
– Following standard procedures to ensure accounts are up to date. This will include reconciling debtors and creditors, updating fixed assets and clearing suspense accounts
– Distribute reports to leadership and provide guidance

Treasury and cash flow
– Record the inter company transactions – income and expenses
– Manage the cash flow to ensure there is enough cash for the coming months activities
– Manage cash transfers through ICH (the OM Treasury system)

Serving opportunities are unsalaried. Most people joining OM raise financial support to cover their living expenses, usually through gifts from home churches and other supporters.
