Looking to use your gift of dance to make Jesus known? Looking for a way to use dance in ministry on an ongoing basis? Then a Freestyle Dance Ministry (FDM) Apprenticeship could be for you! The FDM Apprenticeship will provide you with the necessary training and experience you will need to become an official FDM team member. The apprenticeship will provide you with opportunities for growth in a supervised environment, as well as exploring how your specific gifts will contribute to the overall life of FDM going forward. Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, you will be provided with the opportunity to join FDM under Operation Mobilisation (OM).

The apprenticeship will take place ‘on the road’ in Queensland, as you work with FDM team members ‘Jumpin’ Justin’ and ‘Dancin’ Dan,’ providing FDM workshops to primary and secondary school students, church children and youth groups, and welfare organisations in and around Brisbane.

  • Ministry Details

Over the approximate 1 month period you will be assisting with the teaching of FDM workshops in schools, churches and welfare organisations. You will be nurtured in the role of assisting in the teaching of dance routines, as well as a sharing of a faith message/testimony during the workshop. You will also be trained in how to prepare for a workshop, as well learning skills in evaluation and debriefing following a workshop. You will learn how to adopt the “FDM Culture” and how to replicate this across Australia. By choosing to be a part of FDM you will also have the opportunity to engage first hand with children, youth and young adults as you share the love of God with them through both dance and conversation.

  • Participant Profile
FDM is looking for applicants who are committed to their faith and have a desire to see others come to know Jesus. Other attributes that are also desirable are: - Experience teaching Hip-hop dance or other style/s of dance - Experience with public speaking - Experience serving on short-term missions or youth camps - A willingness to be challenged and grow In addition, you will be required to complete the working with children check for your state and work within the OM Child Safety Policy.
  • Minimum Age: 18
  • Accomodation
We will be staying with one, or a combination made up of the following: Host families, mission accommodation, AirBnb/Hotels. Please note that if we are staying with host families, it is expected that participants engage with host family related activities such as devotion times, social activities etc throughout the duration of our stay.
  • Food
Breakfast and dinners will be provided by host families/mission accommodation. The team will be grocery shopping approximately once a week for food for our lunches, as lunch is often eaten between workshops ‘on the road.’ Grocery fees are covered by your mission cost. You are free to buy your own takeaway or additional grocery items/personal items at appropriate times as you wish at your own expense.
  • Travel
Please arrive in Brisbane on or prior to 17July. Costs will be covered whilst on tour from this date until the end of tour. Transport back to Brisbane airport will be provided. A 'P' or full drivers license is desired but not mandatory for travelling between workshops. Please let us know if you are able to bring your own car to assist with travel. Your travel expenses for tour-related use of your vehicle will be covered whilst on tour. Please make sure your vehicle is in good mechanical order.
  • Health
You will need to have sound physical health to participate in this apprenticeship. Please note that FDM will often conduct multiple dance workshops over the course of day on a regular basis and therefore a good level of physical aptitude is required.

This apprenticeship is only open to Australian citizens and residents, due to current travel restrictions.

  • Notes
Please note that the QLD Tour is divided into 2 Tour Sectors; 17 July – 2 August and 7 – 23 August. You can choose to do 1 OR BOTH of these Tour Sectors. FDM understands that participants may need to take time off study or work to participate in the tour and therefore, only choosing to be involved in 1 Tour Sector at a time is understandable. Please note however, that participants are required to serve on 2 Tour Sectors in order to complete their apprenticeship with FDM. FDM will be holding other Tour Sectors throughout 2021 in different locations so that you have the opportunity to complete your second Tour Sector at a later date. Please note that the cost of completing 1 Tour Sector is $700 AUD and the cost of completing 2 Tour Sectors at one time is discounted to $1200 AUD.
