Bringing Hope to Fatima – October2022

Every year hundreds of thousands of devoted Catholics make their way to Fatima to worship and offer penance to the Virgin Mary. This is one of the holiest sites for Roman Catholics, as in 1917, three young shepherd children reported being visited by Mary. The pilgrims who come to this site are in Spiritual darkness and need to understand the hope and freedom that comes through Jesus.

With Portugal’s strong ties to Roman Catholicism, the anniversary of the reported apparitions of the Virgin Mary in Fatima is a huge event in the country. During the week there will be an estimated 500,000 devout Catholics arriving to offer prayers and worship to Mary. These people are lost and need to hear about the saving power of Jesus! Will you come and share the hope you have in Portugal?

During the outreach we will be interacting with the pilgrims by giving out water, Christian literature, and offering to pray for people. As a team, we will also spend a lot of time in prayer, as there is a very real battle going on in Fatima. October 8 – Arrival Date, anytime October 9- attend and worship in a local church October 10-13 – outreach October 14 – fun team outing October 15 – departure day

Do you love Jesus and want to share His love with those around you? Do you have a heart for those who are lost? Then you are the right person for this outreach! You should also be flexible, able to work in a team, and willing and able to be on your feet for 8 hrs a day. Speaking Portuguese is an added bonus, but not necessary!
Will there be accomodation provided?
Accommodation will be basic dormitory style in a church basement, with mattresses on the floor and shared bathroom facilities. Bring your own pillow and sleeping bag, mattresses are provided. We will try to place married couples together.
Will there be food provided?
Food will be provided, with breakfast, a light lunch, and a hot evening meal. We need to know in advance of any special dietary needs.
Do I need to make my own travel arrangements?
Plan to arrive in Lisbon for October 8. From the airport you will need to take the metro or a taxi to the bus station at Sete Rios. There are buses departing every two hours, for the 1 ½ hr ride to Leiria. Further info will be sent to you upon acceptance.
What should my health condition be like?
You should be in good health, and able to sleep on a floor and be on your feet for several hours at a time.
Do I need a visa?

Portugal is a member in the EU, and is also part of the Schengen zone. For additional visa info, please contact your local OM office.

Due to a fluid COVID situation, please understand if there are some unexpected changes to the outreach plan (including how the interactions with pilgrims are held).

The Florence STEP (Short Term Exposure Program) is a unique opportunity for individuals to serve God in Florence, SC, USA at the OM Ships International campus. It is ideal for those with little, or no, missions experience and those looking to improve their English. Our desire is that participants learn and grow in their Christian walk and have their eyes and hearts opened to what God is doing through OM Ships. It also provides an environment to increase the participant's cultural intelligence and to gain a better understanding about missions and church mobilization. We hope that each participant will leave with a better understanding of ministry and the part they have to play.
Formerly a mobile library, Bus4Life is a multi-functional ministry centre that serves the communities of Central and Eastern Europe. It brings Bibles and Christian literature to the people living in towns and villages who would otherwise have limited or no access to them. Each Bus4Life visit is accompanied by a local outreach team that carries out evangelistic programs for all ages. The ministry is committed to working together with the national and local churches, providing them with quality Christian literature, ideas, and supplies in local ministry and outreach.
