Logos Hope's volunteers have partnered with a Panamanian church called Project 29. The ministry takes its name from the idea of continuing the work of the Church established by Jesus' disciples and spreading into the world beyond the 28 chapters of the book of Acts in the Bible.
The members of the church had a creative item they shared with the ship team: a water bottle with a label that read, ‘Let anyone who is thirsty come to me and drink. Whoever believes in me, as Scripture has said, rivers of living water will flow from within them,’ which is a reference from the Gospel of John 7:37-38.
Adriana Davila (Ecuador) had a conversation with a woman selling ice cones and shared her faith. “I told her that God is her Father, and just as she loves her daughter playing [nearby in the park], He looks at us this way and loves us so much. The greatest proof of this love is Jesus. Her daughter came and asked if we had any Bibles,” said Adriana.
The little girl explained that her teacher sometimes gives her homework researching in the Bible, and that she would love to have a copy for herself. The girl’s mother wasn’t aware her daughter wanted one and Adriana felt compelled to invite the mother and daughter to the ship, so she could give them a Bible as a gift.
One of the church members, Fernando Gabriel Rodriguez Veliz, shared an encounter he had: “The first person we talked to was very receptive to the message of salvation, and we could see he was thirsty to hear about Jesus. We were sharing the written Word of God, and how through it we can know God our Father. He showed that he wanted to hear more, so we continued telling him about Jesus Christ, who died for our sins.”
“We asked him if we could pray for him and he accepted immediately,” continued Fernando. “My eyes filled with tears, I was so happy. He accepted Jesus as his saviour and in this moment, there was a celebration in heaven for this soul that had received the Lord. We shared what our water bottle means and explained more from John’s Gospel.”
The impression Adriana was left with was: “I am constantly reminded of how God loves people more than we do. I can love people and want to share the gospel with them, but God loves them even more than I do and he’s gone all the way by sending Jesus.”
